I <3 Pinterest

My friend Megan invited me to Pinterest and after some figuring it out, I'm hooked! It makes me WANT to do things around the house.  Since I've really lacked motivation, this is a big deal.  Even though I used to be a housekeeper for over 3 years and worked in a kitchen for over 6 years, I'm not a good cook and don't ever desire to clean (my mother & husband will testify to this).

Since finding all these cleaning tips on Pinterest, I've been in a cleaning frenzy!  However, I have ran into some issues between the results in the instructions to actual results.  Finding out "elbow grease" and extra thinking are required!

Hand/Eye Coordination playtime for Matthew- "Pin Recipe" says to use Playdoh, which we don't have.  So I improvised (rice in container with foil & rubberband).  Also said to use Cheerios, but they were too hard for him.  Fruit Loops worked better.

Cleaning the washer- It wasn't clean when we moved in and the thought has never occured to me to clean the thing that cleans our clothes.  Warning, the picture is gross.  Sorry, I apologize.  But look at it now! The spindle did not magically clean with the vinegar soak.  Green scotch brite sponge and elbow grease were required (don't forget the undersides of the spindle!).  I was also armed with a toothbrush & sponge.

Tip: While it soaked with vinegar water for an hour, I also put in our shower curtains for a good washing too.  Good time saver & double use of vinegar!

Cleaning Oven Glass-  I made several attempts with this with some success (my MIL said it worked for hers), but I think mine was too far gone.  I ended up using Bar Keeper's Friend, the green scotch brite sponge, & MAJOR elbow grease.  This is what happens when you cook a lot with a pizza stone or uncovered casseroles:

Clean Plastic Shower Curtain Liners- I saw some improvement after putting in washer, but not miraculous.  Have been using daily shower spray of 3 parts water, 1 part vinegar and it's been taking care of what soap scum was left on (def recommend).

Magic Shower Cleaner for bath tiles, etc-  When I get an empty spray bottle, I'm putting this in it!  Since I don't, I mixed it in a bowl and slopped in on the walls with a sponge (more is better!).  It was great!  Smelled so much better than cleaners, worked soooo much better, and less elbow grease than with cleaners.  Plus, after several showers, the walls are still spotless!  This was probably my favorite cleaning tip so far!

My future cleaning items are homemade dishwasher detergent and cleaning wipes!
